In a routine patrol of a quiet neighborhood in Redwood City, police officers made a significant bust involving two men and a trio of stolen vehicles. The Redwood City Police Department cracked the case on January 27 when officers encountered a suspicious van on Buckeye and Chew Streets.
A quick check against the department’s high-tech Flock camera system confirmed that the van had been reported stolen. The officers swiftly intervened, apprehending two individuals at the scene. One was caught red-handed as he tried to slip into the stolen van. According to the official report from the Redwood City Police Department, 25-year-old Oswaldo MayenGarcia and 66-year-old Scott Huhtala, both from Redwood City, were taken into custody.
Upon further investigation, the police discovered two additional stolen vehicles parked nearby—a box truck and a motorcycle. It seemed like the stolen vehicles were lined up and ready for illicit activity. The authorities determined that MayenGarcia was the primary culprit behind all three stolen vehicles and charged him with three counts of auto theft.
As for Huhtala, an older individual with prior experiences, he was found in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he had a minor warrant in his name. The police issued him a citation promptly and released him. Meanwhile, MayenGarcia was booked, facing a more severe consequence for his involvement in the multi-vehicle theft.
