In a move to protect the public, the San Francisco Police Department was arrested in connection with a string of unsettling incidents near a school. The suspect, an adult male, was detained after being spotted in a suspicious vehicle near Geary Boulevard and 31st Avenue on the morning of January 23, SFPD reports.
According to police, after responding to a call, they detained the man who was reported to have made lewd gestures towards three females, two adults, and one juvenile, over several occasions, with a school in the vicinity. Making inappropriate gestures near the school, the man's actions pointed to a pattern of behavior as described by the victims.
Upon his arrest, it was discovered that the suspect was in possession of a loaded firearm and additional magazines, hidden away in his vehicle. The charges slapped on him included possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, among other relevant crimes.
Reinforcing the seriousness of the arrest at the San Francisco County Jail, the suspect faces multiple charges that go beyond weapon possession, extending into public indecency and child endangerment. The possession of the concealed firearm charges was not a standalone problem, as the acts of indecency and child molestation further punctuated the gravity of the situation.
The San Francisco Police have clarified that the case is far from closed. They call on the public for further assistance in piecing together the suspect's reprehensible behavior pattern: "While an arrest has been made this remains an open and active investigation." SFPD urges anyone with additional information to contact the SFPD Tip Line or text a tip which can be done anonymously.
The community's role in this investigation remains imperative. People who have suffered similarly at the suspect's hands are encouraged by the Special Victim’s Unit to come forward and bolster the case.
