The Austin Independent School District Police Department has issued a warning about an ongoing scam involving fraudulent calls, according to a report by KXAN. Unsuspecting individuals have been targeted by callers posing as AISD PD employees who falsely inform them of active arrest warrants.
In an unsettling new twist on identity theft, the scammers proceed to request Social Security numbers and other sensitive personal information. The AISD has gone on record to clarify, that they would never request such information via phone calls, an important detail for residents to remember during such encounters. In a statement to parents, the district emphasized, "Your safety and security are our utmost priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us combat this fraudulent activity."
Similarly, FOX 7 Austin has reported, on the scam, underlining the district's concern over the increasing number of fraudulent calls reported by community members. These calls have been labeled unequivocally as a scam by Austin ISD.
Victims receiving such dubious calls are strongly advised to contact Austin 311 and make a non-emergency report. This step is seen as crucial in aiding the authorities to track down the offenders and, protect others from falling prey to this deceptive scheme. "If you feel that you have been a victim of this potential scam, please call 311 to make a non-emergency report," Austin ISD warned. The community's vigilance paired with swift action from the local authorities stands as a bulwark against these fraudulent threats to personal security.
