Yesterday, the California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Division Air Operations took the action live over Highway 4. CHP H-30 helicopter was initially up in the air attending to other incidents when a pursuit unfolded on the congested roads of Contra Costa County. The air unit quickly shifted focus, assisting ground officers as they chased a suspect from Concord to the surroundings of Vasco Road and back again.

In a ballet of coordination, when H-30 was called away to refuel, as seen in a video posted on the unit's Facebook page, the East Bay Regional Parks Police Helicopter crew took to the skies, continuing the pursuit. With a bird's eye view, the team known as "Eagle" kept a vigil on the run, eventually aiding those on the ground to cuff the suspect, completing the handoff as seamlessly as passing a baton in a relay race.

This high-flying action was no isolated incident. Zooming out, it becomes clear that the skies over Contra Costa have been busier than usual. In the past week, CHP Golden Gate aircraft have been actively involved in no less than 20 pursuits, turning the routine patrol into a spectacle of speed and surveillance.
