A Williamson County judge sentenced 18-year-old Tristan Carrillo to seven years probation on Jan. 26 for his role in a deadly crash in May 2022 that took the lives of three people, reported KXAN. The ruling came after Carrillo pled guilty to three counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
Driving a pickup truck that failed to yield at an intersection, Carrillo collided with an 18-wheeler in Hutto, resulting in the ejection and death of three passengers in the bed of his truck, according to CBS Austin. The deceased were identified as Sebastian Carrillo, Bryan Gonzalez, and Isaac Garza. Reports indicated a case of beer found on the rear floorboard of the truck, with one of the surviving passengers alleging all had been drinking prior to the incident.
Judge Donna King sentenced Carrillo to serve the probation sentences concurrently for each charge. Originally, after the crash, Carrillo claimed he "had no clue" who was behind the wheel, and following pain medication at the hospital, he stated he did not remember, as per a statement to police detailed in KXAN.
An affidavit cited Carrillo's blood alcohol content at approximately .083, slightly above the Texas legal limit of .08. During the crash that occurred around 10 p.m. on May 13, at the intersection of FM 1660 and Chandler Road, the pickup driven by Carrillo, identified by the surviving passenger as having consumed the least alcohol, was chosen to drive everyone home, CBS Austin reports.
