An attempted car burglary in northwest Miami-Dade turned deadly when the vehicle's owner shot and killed one of the perpetrators. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, in the vicinity of 79th Avenue and NW 194th Street, as reported by CBS Miami.
After being caught in the act of attempting to break into a car parked in front of a home, an altercation erupted between the suspects and the car owner who, amid the confrontation, discharged a firearm hitting one of the suspects as stated by NBC Miami. The wounded individual managed to enter a waiting vehicle, but not before causing a collision with several cars before finally coming to a stop; his attempted escape, an exercise in futility, ended there.
Upon arrival, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the car burglar deceased at the scene, and video obtained from the scene by Chopper 6 depicted a yellow tarp covering what appeared to be the man's body next to the crashed vehicle. The whereabouts of the passenger who fled post-crash were not reported.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin urged the public against taking justice into their own hands stating, "We urge any citizen if they find themselves being a victim of a crime not to confront these subjects it is very dangerous, you don't know how the situation might end, so we urge the community that if, you find yourself the victim, of a crime, do not confront the subjects. Please contact the police." He further expressed police dedication to resolving such incidents and delivering justice as conveyed in an interview by CBS Miami.
As of now, the details regarding charges against the car owner for use of deadly force are unclear; local authorities have not yet ascertained if the car owner will be prosecuted for the death of the alleged burglar.
