A quiet night in northwest Miami-Dade was shattered by gunfire when a woman became the latest victim of a shooting while she was sitting in her car. The incident took place on Tuesday evening near the 1000 block of Northwest 77th Street, turning a residential area into a crime scene.
Miami-Dade Police Department's Detective Alvaro Zabaleta confirmed that the woman was shot in the lower part of her body. With the perps at large, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel rushed her to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in a stable condition, sitting inside the car as she was being taken, according to an email Zabaleta sent to Local 10 News.
The details surrounding the shooting remain scant. The police have yet to release information about potential suspects or the circumstances leading up to the attack. "Preliminary information reveals that several subject(s) approached the victim, opened fire and fled in a vehicle in an unknown direction," Zabaleta stated.
The call for witnesses has been put out by the authorities, seeking help from the public in a bid to catch those responsible for the shooting. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477, as the community reels from another instance of violence that disrupted the peace, according to NBC Miami.
