A Detroit woman being slapped with serious charges for posing as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a real estate agent without the necessary licenses, the Michigan Attorney General's Office has confirmed. Krystal Davis, 37, stands accused of conning residents by offering to handle their property management and tax preparation needs although she lacked the credentials to do so.
During her recent court appearance, Davis learned she'll have to grapple with one count of accounting violations, a potentially five-year felony rap, and two counts of violating the occupational code for her unlicensed real estate agent hustle, each could have her cooling her heels in jail for up to 90 days as reported by Hoodline. The magistrate threw the book at Davis with a hefty $100,000 bond, and her next hurdle will be a circuit court arraignment set for the morning of March 14.
The shadowy dealings of Davis' company, Card Property Management LLC—an apparent front for the unlicensed activity that also operated under the name Card Enterprises LLC, were allegedly not just confined to real estate; Davis is also accused of hoodwinking individuals into believing she was a Michigan licensed CPA, per the charges detailed by the Michigan Attorney General. "When Michigan residents seek assistance with their business and financial affairs, they must be able to trust the representations professionals make about their qualifications," Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a crack at both sympathy for the victims and stern warning to would-be offenders.
The stage is now set for the legal proceedings that just might spell a harsh reality check for Davis, whose alleged charade has crumbled, leaving clients grappling with the realization that their financial and property affairs were in the hands of someone who allegedly played fast and loose with the trust they, unfortunately, placed in her.
