A Homestead man faces several charges after allegedly using social media platforms and text messages to sexually pursue a minor in the Florida Keys, officials said. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Rafael Felipe Bajos sent sexually explicit photos and videos to a 16-year-old girl and attempted to arrange a meeting for sex.
Police arrested Bajos on Friday, and he was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, where he awaits extradition to Monroe County. The bond on the warrant is set at $120,000., according to deputies. The arrest follows an investigation that began in February after the victim, a resident of the Upper Keys, reported the unwanted communication.
Authorities charged Bajos with transmitting information harmful to a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and use of a computer to seduce, solicit, and lure a minor. The investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit revealed the communication between Bajos and the teen occurred on Snapchat, TikTok, and via text messages.
Monroe County officials detailed these allegations in a press release on Saturday., stating that the investigation showed Bajos had sent "nude and sexually explicit" photos and videos of his body to the teen girl. Bajos also allegedly tried to set up a face-to-face encounter with the minor, prompting his arrest warrant and subsequent apprehension.
Families and authorities alike continue to grapple with the reality of online predators, with social media platforms often serving as conduits for such detestable behavior. The case of Bajos serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the importance of vigilance in the digital age and the swift action law enforcement can take when such incidents are reported. Details of the case were confirmed by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and local news such as Local 10 News and CBS Miami.
