The Miami-Dade Police Department has arrested two men and is hot on the heels of a third in connection with the grim discovery of a dead body found in an SUV last year. According to CBS News Miami, authorities charged 23-year-old Yurwin Salazar-Maita and 28-year-old Julio Cesar Hernandez-Montero with first-degree murder, home invasion, armed carjacking, kidnapping, and robbery, following the death of 43-year-old Jose Luis Sanchez Valera.
The detailed investigation traced back to November last year, when Valera's body was found early morning inside his silver SUV in Northwest Miami-Dade. The scene, located at Northwest 37th Avenue and 28th Street, became the key to unraveling a home invasion possibly connected to a notorious Venezuelan gang. Salazar-Maita fell into the hands of law enforcement in Broward County this January, while Hernandez-Montero was nabbed in Panama City, Panama, through the assistance of FBI and HSI, as reported by CBS News Miami.
According to NBC Miami, the victim was last seen at a Miami hotel, from which he was violently abducted. His apartment was later raided, and several valuables, including a safe, were stolen. The arrest warrant revealed Sanchez-Valera was forcefully removed from his Toyota 4Runner, a vehicle that would later become a critical piece of evidence, with Salazar-Maita's fingerprint sealing his fate.
Hernandez-Montero, on the other hand, had tangible connections to both the victim and the crime scene. His phone was pinged at the hotel during the abduction, and the suspect's clothing matched that of the home invaders — details that left little room for doubt about his involvement. Despite these breakthroughs in this harrowing case, Miami-Dade Police are still chasing the last member of this criminal puzzle, who remains at-large and unidentified.
