A tragic accident in Miami Gardens claimed the life of a juvenile after being struck by an SUV early Monday morning, officials reported. Authorities arrived at the scene near the intersection of Northwest 183rd Street and Northwest 47th Avenue, following the collision which occurred just before 7 a.m., as per Local 10.
Aerial footage captured an SUV stopped with visible front end damage, the aftermath of a catastrophic moment where, a life was cut short. The juvenile had disembarked from a school bus and attempted to cross the street when they were hit by the vehicle, according to details from the Miami Gardens Police Department reported by WSVN. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews and law enforcement were quick to respond, and the victim was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Unfortunately, the young pedestrian succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the black Honda Pilot, which was involved remained at the scene, cooperating with the investigating officers, NBC Miami stated. The police disclosed that, the children were crossing the road outside of a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident, raising concerns about pedestrian safety in the area particularly during the low light conditions of the early morning.
In light of the events, an official urged parents to instruct their children on proper road safety. “To the parents: talk to your kids. Let them know to not cross the middle of the street, cross where there is light. Please talk to your kids,” authorities highlighted the need for caution and awareness in road-crossing habits. While the driver involved is not currently facing charges, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
