San Jose Woman Accused of Spending Counterfeit Cash, Drug Possession in Colma CaperSource: Colma Police Department

Spending phony cash became real trouble for a San Jose woman over the weekend. On Saturday, just past the midafternoon glow, Colma cops swooped in on a suspect accused of trying to make a quick buck with counterfeit currency at a business on Junipero Serra Boulevard.

The suspect, Kimberly Pannell, was allegedly caught on tape by loss prevention officers using the fake $50 notes before she hightailed it on foot. The Colma Police Department reported officers were called to the scene around 5:26 pm after the fraudulent transaction was flagged.

Once on scene, law enforcement found and detained a woman matching the description provided. The business's loss prevention staff fingered her as the culprit. According to the Colma Police Department's statement, a consent search revealed more than just bogus bills—officers uncovered drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine.

Pannell, a 44-year-old resident of San Jose, didn’t try to play innocent. She owned up to knowing the cash was counterfeit. The sordid shopping spree led to her arrest on several charges, including possession of counterfeit bills, petty theft, and possession of a controlled substance. Despite the laundry list of offenses, she was given a citation and sent packing with a court date to face the music, according to the Colma Police Department.
