A deadly early morning incident has left an unidentified woman dead after she was hit by a car while crossing a major roadway in West Palm Beach, officials said. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reported that the accident occurred just after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Kirk Road, not far from Palm Beach International Airport.

The fatal event involved a 1999 Acura sedan colliding with the pedestrian as she walked across the westbound lanes. In the aftermath, the vehicle came to a halt in the center median, the woman's life irretrievably lost on the asphalt, The Palm Beach Post reports.

The driver of the Acura, a 36-year-old man from Lake Worth Beach, and his 22-year-old passenger, miraculously emerged from the wreckage unscathed. The Sheriff's Office is still in the process of identifying the woman and notifying her next of kin. As to whether the driver would face charges, the status remained unclear at the time of reporting.

Visibility at the intersection was heavily compromised, with law enforcement personnel and emergency vehicles blanketing the scene, as captured in aerial footage taken by WPTV Chopper 5. All westbound lanes of Southern Boulevard were blocked off near Australian Avenue during the investigation, according to WPTV.
