
STONEHAM, Mass. — A heart-stopping scene unfolded in Stoneham yesterday afternoon, prompting a swift response from local first responders who executed a dramatic rescue of a woman trapped in an overturned vehicle. According to a joint statement by Police Chief James O'Connor and Fire Chief Matthew Grafton obtained by MassLive, the rollover crash occurred around 2:26 p.m. at 92 Marble St. and involved the flipped car striking another vehicle before careening into the front steps of a home.
Upon arriving at the scene, Stoneham police and firefighters discovered the driver, wearing her seatbelt during the crash, enclosed within the vehicle. Utilizing hydraulic tools, they managed to extract the woman, who was the car's sole occupant, according to the local authorities. The same Stoneham issue's official sources announced that the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, however, her condition necessitated transportation to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Damages inflicted upon the home caught in this mishap prompted an inspection from a building inspector, who thankfully determined that the residence was safe for the occupants to remain within, as reported by Boston 25 News. The timing of the crash, which took place moments before local schools were to discharge their students, added to the peril of the situation, noted Grafton. "I’m grateful that no pedestrians were on the sidewalk at the time of this crash," he said.
Grafton's relief was palpable considering the potential for a far graver outcome had the incident happened later. The crash remains under active investigation by the Stoneham and Winchester police departments, as they work to piece together the chain of events that led to the home and one other vehicle visited by the day's chaos.
