A grim discovery was made in Parkland, Florida, Monday morning when a vehicle was found upside-down, submerged in a canal with a body inside. The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department received a distress call regarding the incident near 10900 NW 78th Place just after 11 a.m., WSVN reported.
Divers deployed at the scene uncovered the body within the vehicle, which had apparently suffered a crash leading to its watery grave. Officials from the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) were on the scene to investigate what circumstances led to the fatal incident, as evidence of oil or fuel sheen was visible on the surface of the water. As per the report by WSVN, the dive team responded promptly to the call.
The BSO Dive Team joined forces with Coral Springs Fire Rescue in the recovery effort. Details about the incident are still sparse, as the investigation into the cause of the crash and the identity of the victim continues. The car was located in a canal near NW 78th Place, where, it is believed, an accident forced the vehicle off the road and into the water.
7Skyforce provided aerial footage from the scene, showcasing the vehicle submerged and capsized, this, while authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the tragedy. “What led up to the crash and the victim's identity remain under investigation,” according to a statement obtained by NBC6.
