Barnes & Noble is bouncing back in the Windy City with the unveiling of its new Lincoln Park store set for Wednesday. The location at Clark Street and Diversey Parkway will be celebrating its grand opening with fanfare starting at 10 a.m., featuring local authors and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Jeneva Rose as reported by WLS. This opening marks a return to form for the bookseller in a city where it had recently shuttered its longtime site at Webster and Clybourn avenues.
With the page turning on past closures, Barnes & Noble's Chicago resurgence doesn't stop there. Plans for a new store in the former Walgreens flagship building on North Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park are in the works, part of a broader expansion that sees five new locations set to open across the Chicago area. Details on these openings were first shared by WTTW. These additional spots will include venues in Oswego, Northbrook, and later, Schererville, Indiana.
A spokesperson for Barnes & Noble underscored the company's growth trajectory in a statement captured by WTTW, "Barnes & Noble is experiencing a period of tremendous growth right now and we are opening stores across the country." It's a strategic push that infuses optimism into the retail book market, a sector that has faced its own set of challenges in a digital world.
The ambitious expansion serves to fill a gap left by previous closures. Chicago had been without a standalone Barnes & Noble location, barring the DePaul University college bookstore. Notably, the new stores are set to open in the summer at 651 W. Diversey Parkway and 1601 N. Milwaukee Ave., while other planned locations will open their doors in both the spring and fall. The bookseller appears determined to reclaim its presence in Chicago's retail landscape, now with a fortified roster of locations dotted across the city and surrounding areas.
