A routine check by the Colma Police Department turned into a felony arrest early Tuesday morning, May 7, when officers on patrol spotted something out of place at a local shopping center. Amid the silent storefronts, a white Forest River motorhome parked on the 200 block of Colma Boulevard caught the eye of law enforcement. A standard DMV review of the vehicle records quickly revealed that the motorhome was not merely out of place. It was out of hand and was reported stolen by the Concord Police Department.
Officers decided to carefully inspect the vehicle at approximately 4:13 am and discovered a male individual asleep at the kitchen table inside the mobile home. The unnamed man was swiftly detained, presenting no cause for the altercation. Initially, the man attempted to sidestep his true identity, supplying officers with false information. Yet, as dawn likely began to break on the scene, the man's real identity surfaced through a thorough dispatchers' check. It turned out he was far from unknown in the eyes of the law.
The man was identified as Douglas Edwards, a 51-year-old with no reported residence. In the web of justice, Edwards’s identity was tangled with a $50,000 felony warrant, a $20,000 felony warrant, and a $2,500 misdemeanor warrant, all from external agencies beyond Colma's jurisdiction. His latest acts to add to his criminal resume were possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft without the owner’s consent, and providing false identification to a peace officer.
With the warrants out for his arrest, Edwards found himself behind bars, booked into the San Mateo County Jail. Meanwhile, the stolen motorhome was towed from the spot where it had been aberrantly placed, as noted in a Facebook post by the Colma Police Department.
