The Coral Springs Police Department released bodycam footage this week revealing the pursuit and capture of a burglary suspect, according to reporting from Local 10 News. The suspect, who has been linked to a series of burglaries targeting vehicles and occupied homes, was apprehended following an intense early morning chase.
Initially spotted by an officer who instructed him to remain seated on the sidewalk, the suspect decided to flee, leading to a dramatic foot chase documented in the released footage. The officer's bodycam captured the suspect running down Riverside Drive and then onto Northwest 5th Street, with the suspect making an entry into a home’s pool enclosure, according to Coral Springs Talk.
As the man attempted to evade police, overhead assistance from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit was pivotal, as they maintained visual contact and provided real-time location updates to ground units. This collaboration was instrumental in surrounding and cornering the suspect, who was found with the help of a police K9 unit.
Ending the chase at approximately 2:57 a.m., the footage shows the burglar handcuffed and secured in the back of a squad car. To date, the identity of the man in custody has been held by authorities, whom police said faces charges that include burglary of an occupied dwelling and obstruction, as stated in the bodycam footage.
