Fountain Hills is gearing up for a major sidewalk overhaul, set to kick off Monday, June 3; the streets of Palisades Boulevard and Saguaro Boulevard will soon boast new walkways, after the town snagged a $2 million federal grant last year. The Sidewalk Infill Project aims to bridge the gaps along these key boulevards, enhancing pedestrian access and safety through a series of upgrades that include the construction of a brand-new 8-foot sidewalk that will wind its way from Fountain Hills Boulevard to Colony Drive, and also near El Lago Boulevard, according to officials.
The project, as noted on the town's website, is a 180-day endeavor that will also involve utility relocations and an array of driveway adjustments, besides the installation of curbs and gutters to mitigate drainage issues, the pavement will be obliterated and restriped, signs relocated and retaining walls erected and for those who worry about the natural vista, fear not, because landscape restoration is also on the docket. Residents can expect work to unfold on weekdays, from the early hours of 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., but should also brace for the inevitable lane restrictions that come with such extensive upgrades.
While the improvements are bound to cause some temporary inconveniences, the town has promised to keep the public in the loop about traffic changes, lane closures, and any other hiccups encountered along the way. Communications will come through various channels including direct email notifications, social media, the project's dedicated webpage, and the local newspaper, the Fountain Hills Times-Independent, which will offer updates for drivers and pedestrians trying to navigate the construction zones.
Officials are eager to see the project come to fruition, stating that not only will it improve the walking experience around Fountain Hills but it also intends to tackle head-on the vital issues of road safety, drainage, and the town's aesthetic appeal, once everything is said and done, these enhancements are expected to elevate Fountain Hills' infrastructure, making for a more connected and pedestrian-friendly town. The Town of Fountain Hills has not stood still but pushed forward to ensure these much-needed improvements were secured, thanks to the collaboration with the Arizona Department of Transportation and the hefty support via federal funding, this is a testament to the town's commitment to progress and modernization.
