The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is consolidating its efforts in a significant move that sees it merging two regional offices into one. The West Chicago Regional Office, previously located at 245 W. Roosevelt Road in West Chicago, has packed up and headed to the Westbrook Corporate Center in Westchester. This relocation also includes the former Bellwood Regional Office, which had already set up shop in Westchester as of February.
The newly minted Westchester Regional Office now stands as a fortress of public health at 3 Westbrook Corporate Center, 3rd Floor, Westchester, IL 60154. Looking to get in touch? The contact number for the ex-West Chicago staff rings at (708) 409-8811, while those dialing for the Bellwood crew should punch in (708) 409-8810. The rationale behind the move is clear—a play by IDPH to streamline their operations and enhance their service to the public.
With an IDPH roster of around 180 staffers, the Westchester RHO is more than just a placeholder. This hub oversees a slew of critical responsibilities, ranging from Long-Term Care field operations to the Office of Preparedness and Response. IDPH takes a hands-on approach, offering necessary training for school-based professionals to conduct mandatory vision and hearing screenings for young learners across Illinois pre-schools and schools, as well as plumbing and lead certification exams for the tradesmen and -women among us, according to details provided by the department.
Thanks to this strategic merger, a total of six Regional Health Offices now service the state, down one from the previous seven. The West Chicago Office, in its new avatar, coordinates with local health departments across DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties. This sweeping move brings a promise of heightened efficiency and stronger community ties as IDPH looks to optimize its public health outreach across the region.
