
PortMiami has clinched the title of best U.S. homeport for 2024, an honor bestowed by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine. The decision came from the magazine's top brass, solidifying Miami's standing as a cruise industry heavyweight. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava expressed her gratitude: "We are grateful to Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine for selecting PortMiami as the best homeport in the United States," she noted in a statement reported by Miami-Dade's official press release.
Boasting partnerships with 23 cruise lines, the port offers an eclectic mix of travel options. Its recent expansions include three state-of-the-art cruise terminals with another one soon to definitely open in 2024. What's more, a brand-new Royal Caribbean Group terminal is set to welcome cruisers by late 2027.
Ecotourism gets a nod too, with PortMiami's Shore Power Program set to wrap up in spring 2024. This green initiative is a joint venture between the port, its cruise partners, and Florida Power and Light Company. It's a nifty setup that lets docked ships switch off their engines, cutting air pollution while they're at port.
Bill Panoff, editor-in-chief of Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine, recognizes Miami's allure, stating, "Miami is one of the greatest cities in the world and has always maintained a top spot in the world of cruise especially," in an an interview reflected in the county's press release. He praises PortMiami's accessibility and the variety of leisure activities within arm’s reach. It's a win for travelers who like to effortlessly start or finish their sea voyages with local adventures, as per Miami-Dade's official press release.
