In a tragic incident that unfolded Wednesday evening in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, a 13-year-old boy was critically injured by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bicycle. The same driver also collided with a blue Nissan carrying two juveniles, ages 10 and 7, and two adults, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The incident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on the 1600 block of West Jonquil Terrace when a vehicle speeding through the area first hit the Nissan and then the boy on his bicycle, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The impact of the collision sent the victims to various local hospitals with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford noted that all of the injured parties were transported in critical condition, though their injuries were not considered life-threatening. The investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing, with no arrests made at the time of the reports.
As the community reels from the shock of this chaotic scene, first responders acted swiftly. The three children were admitted to Lurie Children's Hospital and Lutheran General Hospital in Evanston, while the two adults were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. A sixth person was also at the scene, and refused medical attention, fire officials said, as per the Chicago Sun-Times. Law enforcement officials are calling on witnesses and any sources with information to come forward as Area Three detectives pursue the case.
