
A 64-year-old man, identified as John Kastanes, has been arrested and charged with the attempted murder of a 70-year-old male in Chicago, according to a statement released by the Chicago Police Department. The incident reportedly took place in the 3800 block of N. Keeler Ave. Kastanes, from the 3900 block of N. Tripp Ave., is now facing a series of felony charges, including one count of attempt murder in the first degree, one count of aggravated battery with a discharge of a firearm, and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
Details surrounding the events that led up to the shooting are still emerging, but the police disclosed that Kastanes was apprehended on June 13, 2024, shortly before 11 a.m., presumably to try and prevent him from possibly causing more harm. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly shot around ten minutes before the alleged shooter was captured. Kastanes is currently held pending a detention hearing scheduled on the same day as the charge announcement, at the court located at 2600 S. California.
The 70-year-old victim was immediately attended to following the incident, but the extent of his injuries and his current condition are yet undisclosed. The motive behind the shooting is not clear at this juncturne and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the altercation.
The Chicago Police Department has not released any further information pertaining to this case. The detention hearing is anticipated to provide more insight into the accusations against Kastanes.
