The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert concerning a pair of armed robberies that targeted businesses in the 16th and 17th Districts. These incidents, which occurred on the 5200 block of North Nagle Ave. and the 4700 block of North Elston Ave., took place on the nights of May 9th and May 10th, respectively. According to the department, in each instance, suspects entered the premises, declared a robbery, and fled in a vehicle after obtaining goods or cash.
Fleeing the scene in a vehicle, the offenders have been described by authorities as one male black and one male white. The first robbery happened on North Nagle Ave at 11:56 P.M. on May 9th, followed swiftly by the second on North Elston Ave at 12:09 A.M. on May 10th. Residents in the affected neighborhoods have been advised to stay vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.
In response to these robberies, local law enforcement is asking for the community's cooperation. "Always be aware of your surroundings," the alert advises, and it suggests that individuals should remain calm if confronted by an assailant. Notable physical characteristics, such as scars, tattoos, acne, limps, etc. should be committed to memory and conveyed to the police, along with any information about a potential getaway vehicle, including license plate numbers.
Anyone who may be approached by a witness is encouraged to request contact information, ensuring the witness can be reached by authorities. The police clearly state, "Never pursue a fleeing assailant," underlining the importance of safety over heroics. Witnesses or victims must call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people, as noted in the alert. This includes following the incident instructions by the police, which are aimed at improving public safety and aiding in the apprehension of suspects.
