Grubhub and Albertsons Companies are teaming up to deliver grocery essentials across the US directly to shoppers' doorsteps. Announced Tuesday, the partnership enables customers to order groceries from nearly 1,800 Albertsons stores, including those under the Safeway, Jewel-Osco, and other banners, through Grubhub's platform, as reported by Chicago Sun-Times. The collaboration is designed to simplify the grocery buying process, giving customers the ability to quickly have to select goods from the Albertsons roster of stores within Grubhub’s extensive network.
Users can now tap into the Grubhub app or website to seamlessly browse and purchase a range of products offered by Albertsons. Furthermore, if shopping through Grubhub+, they're privy to perks such as unlimited $0 delivery fees on eligible orders, as detailed by Chain Store Age. The implementation of this service falls in line with Albertsons' surge into the digital realm in recent years, including partnerships with other third-party delivery services like DoorDash and Instacart, as well as a speedy 'Flash' delivery option for even quicker turnaround.
Amber Kappa, VP of Business Development and Digital Innovation at Albertsons Companies, reiterated the company's dedication to customer convenience: "At Albertsons Cos., we are committed to providing customers with convenience, choice, and variety," she said in a statement obtained by Chain Store Install. Craig Whitmer, Grubhub’s Vice President of New Verticals, underlined the importance of the deal: "Through this exciting partnership, we’re giving consumers more choices while maximizing value so that they find exactly what they need on Grubhub delivered right to their door," he told Chicago Sun-Times.
This strategic partnership marks Grubhub's expansion into grocery delivery after its initial foray with Mercato and positions it to benefit from Albertsons' sprawling retail footprint across the United States. The service points to ever-evolving consumer habits keen on digital convenience, as Grubhub and Albertsons adapt to meet the demand for home-delivered groceries. Both entities are looking to tap into a market that favors the blend of online ordering ease with the necessity of grocery shopping, facilitating an array of choices delivered directly to consumers.
