A man is in critical condition following a shooting that occurred in a Madison parking lot, leaving him with a gunshot wound to the head and wounding a bystander. The incident, which took place on Monday, prompted an immediate emergency response as the Metro Nashville Police Department continues to investigate.
According to WSMV, the victim, identified as a 30-year-old man, was shot during an altercation that escalated into gunfire. A bystander inadvertently caught in the shooting was also injured but has since been treated and released. "I just saw like a whole bunch of guys standing around and I saw a guy laid out," Irvin Jones, a boxing instructor who works nearby, told WSMV.
As per The Tennessean, the 31-year-old Dondrinkus Dickerson, sustained life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized. While the Metro Police haven't apprehended the suspect yet, they believe the shooting was targeted, stemming from an argument between Dickerson and the shooter.
News 2 adds another layer to the story, reporting that a stolen handgun was recovered beneath the critically injured man. This particular weapon was linked to a previous aggravated robbery on 12th Avenue North in April 2023. The second victim, a 28-year-old bystander, whose abdomen was wounded, was treated for his injuries and released from Skyline Medical Center.
"They have to do better in this area, especially with a lot of businesses here," Jones stated. Metro Nashville police encourage anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, where callers can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
