Two 17-year-old male juveniles stand accused of multiple counts of felony for their alleged involvement in a string of aggravated vehicular hijackings in Chicago, according to the Chicago Police Department's official release. The arrests were made by the department's Vehicular Hijacking Task Force Team on June 13, 2024, as the minors were reportedly caught in the 10100 block of S. Yates Ave, only hours after the reported crimes.
One male juvenile faces two felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm while his counterpart is charged with the same two felony counts, in addition to one count of aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon in a vehicle, one felony for possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number, and a misdemeanor for theft of lost or mislaid property valued at less than 500 dollars, these charges reflect the severity of the allegations in a city grappling with vehicular crimes. The Chicago Police Department believes the pair also executed a vehicular hijacking earlier in the 1100 block of N. Milwaukee Ave., where a vehicle was taken at gunpoint from the victim.
Details provided by the official police report indicate that the first hijacking incident involved a 35-year-old male victim in the 8500 block of S. Lafayette Ave. within the 6th District. The suspects were identified and subsequently apprehended less than an hour after the incident. The second incident followed a similar sequence of a vehicle being taken at gunpoint, further connecting the juveniles to these crimes.
