As we edge closer to the summer months and dust off our garden hoses, Woodbury residents are reminded to adhere to the city's lawn watering schedule. Residential properties can water their lawns up to two days per week, while commercial properties are restricted to Fridays. Homeowners associations will need to align with the residential zones they fall into. The city of Woodbury has made it clear that watering between noon and 5 p.m. is off-limits, even on your designated watering days.
The city has provided a map and an interactive online tool for residents to check their watering days—Zone A is slated for Monday and Friday, Zone B for Tuesday and Saturday, Zone C for Wednesday and Sunday, and Zone D for Thursday and Sunday— as detailed on the city's announcement. Notably this year, Zone A's schedule has shifted, providing a longer interval between its watering days, in a move said to boost the municipal water system's resilience.
When it comes to technology in lawn watering, Woodbury is encouraging residents to get with the times. If you're not yet equipped with an automatic controller to manage your sprinkling based on the zone times and allowed hours, there's an opportunity to upgrade. The city has extended a discount on Rachio Smart Irrigation Controllers, bringing the price down from $230 to a mere $35 for Woodbury residents. These controllers not only align with local regulations but can also be a gateway to a more water-efficient home.
This policy focuses strictly on lawn and landscape irrigation, meaning other outdoor water activities like car washing and pool filling aren't part of the restrictions. If you're one to carry a watering can or wield a hose, you'll be pleased to know that hand-watering your plants is acceptable at times. However, flouting these regulations can result in a citation, as "failure to comply with the Woodbury watering policy is a violation of City Code," according to the official statement.
For those eager beavers with brand-new sod or seed, don't despair; the city does offer special watering permits which can be applied for online. The lawn watering policy isn't just for these sun-soaked days—it's a perennial affair active year-round. For additional details or to clarify any doubts, residents can head to the Watering Policy page, shoot an email to Public Works, or give them a call at 651-714-3720.
