Prescott motorists are set to see some changes as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) begins a new construction project aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety. Starting next week, a mile stretch of State Route 69 will be expanded to accommodate additional lanes and a raised center median. ADOT, hand in hand with the Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Organization, has mapped out the area between Prescott Lakes Parkway and Frontier Village, corresponding to mileposts 294-295, for development.
A budget of $9.8 million has been earmarked for this project that is not just about widening the road, but also installing a plethora of improvements. Among the anticipated enhancements are the addition of curbs and gutters, the installation of new pipe culverts and storm drains, the replacement of a traffic signal, as well as the updating of signage and striping. These are essential changes, hencefully designed to pave the way for safer and more efficient traveling in the area.
The construction is expected to last around nine months, should all go according to plan. Commuters are advised that their day-time driving experience should remain relatively unaffected with two travel lanes available. However, there's a slight tweak in night schedules—traffic will be narrowed to a single lane in each direction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Sunday evenings to Thursday mornings. ADOT reassures local businesses and travelers that access will be maintained, though minor delays may occur when work progresses in front of driveways or along side streets.
For those interested in staying up-to-date on the SR 69's development, ADOT has made it easy; updates can be tracked by visiting their official project page. Weekend and state holiday travelers can breathe a sigh of relief since no restrictions will be placed during these times.
