Casa Grande residents should brace for slower commutes starting next week as the city embarks on a significant sewer overhaul. In an effort to enhance its sewage capacity, the city will begin a project on Monday, July 8, 2024, expected to last two months. According to a press release from the City of Casa Grande, drivers navigating the intersection of Highway 387 (Pinal Avenue) and Kortsen Road are likely to experience delays, with lane reductions and restrictions on left-hand turns in place throughout the duration of the project.
While attempting to quickly advance the pace of construction, Casa Grande has opted to add a second work team on Kortsen Road at Henness Road. "Motorists should expect traffic delays in the area," as stated in the city's press release, encouraging drivers "to drive slowly in the cone zone and adhere to traffic control devices". Not only will there be active roadwork, but contractors will also be executing jack and bore operations, which is a trenchless technology used to install underground utilities.
The Kortsen Road Sewer Relief Project, boasting a budget of $8.7 million, is a crucial development for Casa Grande. Spanning some 4.6 miles, the project is set to originate at the Henness Road alignment, navigate along the Kortsen Road alignment, and culminate at the City's Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). Once completed, it is expected to drastically increase sewer handling capacity by approximately 9 million gallons per day (MGD), a necessary upgrade to accommodate the city’s expansion.
