The Hartford City Police Department has confirmed the safe location of a previously missing 14-year-old girl from Indiana. A Silver Alert that had been initiated overnight was canceled following the teen's discovery, as reported by WRTV. The alert was initially declared after the teen went missing last night around 7 p.m.
Details regarding the circumstances of how the teen was found remain undisclosed. The Indiana State Police declined to provide further information at this time. Authorities were engaged in an active search following the alert, which was disseminated statewide early this morning. The Hartford City Police Department thanked the public for their assistance, indicating that community efforts played a role in the resolution of this incident, according to a statement on social media mentioned by WTHR.
The missing girl, identified as Jasmine Marie Phillips by WCPO, was the subject of the alert. Notably, Silver Alerts have become more commonplace since the criteria was expanded last year to include not only endangered adults but also children, offering an alternative to the Amber Alert system, which necessitates evidence of an abduction and imminent danger to the child.
