After being treated for gunshot wounds sustained in a shootout, 31-year-old Miqueal Williams, a suspect in a Nashville murder case and subsequent shooting of a police detective, has been taken into custody. Williams had been sought by the Metro Nashville Police following a murder indictment for the fatal shooting of Samuel Edwards Jr., which took place on March 4 at an apartment complex on Buena Vista Pike.
According to WSMV, the arrest occurred on July 15 at an apartment complex on Skyline Ridge Drive after a confrontation in which Williams, allegedly armed with a semi-automatic pistol, exchanged fire with Detective Carlos Diaz. The encounter resulted in Williams sustaining injuries to his foot and hip, while Diaz was shot in the leg. The events leading to his arrest involved Williams and an unidentified woman, emerging from an apartment and entering a vehicle. Upon the police's attempt to arrest him, the woman sensibly requested to exit the vehicle, after which Williams confronted the officers.
A statement obtained by WKRN reported that Williams is now facing additional charges of attempted murder regarding the shooting of Detective Diaz. The intense episode was captured through body camera footage, which was subsequently released to the public on YouTube, showing the rapid succession of events and gunfire that unfolded during the attempted arrest.
After being hospitalized for his injuries, Williams was discharged on Thursday and immediately booked into the Davidson County Downtown Detention Center, according to NewsChannel 5. Detective Diaz, who also received brief medical attention for his wound, was released from the hospital on the same evening of the shooting. As the case progresses, the footage from the body cameras worn by Diaz and Detective Joseph Gonzales, who was also involved in the shooting, will likely play a key role in the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
