A coalition of concerned citizens on Clifton Avenue elicited a law enforcement crackdown on a local drug operation, resulting in a substantial haul and the arrest of Leonard Talley, a resident with a history of felony convictions. Acting on grievances about persistent suspect activity at 2836 Clifton Avenue, detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division and SWAT team members executed a raid, their efforts culminating in the confiscation of narcotics, firearms, and cash, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
The initiative, spurred by community reports of suspicious through traffic at Talley's residence, led to surveillance. Subsequently, investigators confirmed the illegal transactions, observing Talley dispensing drugs directly through his front door. The Wednesday raid resulted in Talley's capture and the seizure of 4.5 pounds of cocaine, some laced with deadly fentanyl, 5 ounces of crack cocaine, over a pound of marijuana, multiple firearms including a stolen pistol, and upwards of $4,000 in cash.
Further scrutiny of the operation revealed Talley's association with the neighboring property at 2834 Clifton Avenue, where officers discovered an assortment of weaponry, including an AR-15 rifle and an additional cache of cash totaling $5,386. The AR-15 was identified as stolen from a Nashville vehicle burglary back in 2020. Talley, whose rap sheet includes previous convictions for felony cocaine and marijuana offenses, as well as possession of a firearm as a felon, is currently detained with bail set at $326,000.
The Metro Nashville Police Department has expressed gratitude towards the vigilant residents whose watchful eyes and willingness to report dubious dealings enabled the disruption of this clandestine drug trade market that was operating within their community. This statement follows the successful operation yesterday, which saw an end to at least one chapter of drug-related crime on Clifton Avenue.
