Early Friday morning, a police chase initiated by the Lawrence Police Department culminated in a three-vehicle accident on the northeast side of Indianapolis. A vehicle reported as stolen sparked a pursuit around 2:50 a.m. after failing to yield to police officers, leading them on a chase towards 62nd Street and Binford Boulevard. The consequence was a crash involving the suspect vehicle, a Lawrence Police SUV, and a gray passenger vehicle.
According to FOX59, the stolen car overturned during the incident, with its two occupants fleeing the scene and currently remaining at large. As the police continue their investigation, no arrests have been made. The officer in the police SUV, along with the driver of the gray vehicle, were hospitalized for evaluation and are expected to recover well.
News 8's photojournalist Jeff Clayton reported significant damage to the front end of the Lawrence Police vehicle, and the third vehicle remained on the road after the wreck. WISH-TV noted the traffic on Binford Boulevard was still flowing, albeit with no access to 62nd Street from Binford due to the ongoing investigation.
Fleeing the scene, the two passengers in the car being chased were not immediately detained, after having their vehicle end up flipped off the intersection. According to WRTV, a Lawrence PD officer sustained minor injuries during the ordeal, while a third driver involved purportedly did not suffer serious injuries. The police chase reportedly started near Pendleton Pike and Sunnyside Road before reaching its tumultuous conclusion on Binford Boulevard.
