Beech Grove Firearms, a gun store with a recent history of thefts, has been targeted again, marking another attempt in a series of break-ins, the latest break-in ended with the arrest of three teenagers. WTHR reported that owner Greg Burge discovered the attempted burglary after reviewing surveillance footage which showed three suspects, wearing hoodies and masks and carrying tools, trying to break into the store by jumping the back fence, and this incident marks the third attempted burglary at this location within the past year.
Early Friday morning, the Beech Grove police responded to the incident, which was reported around 5:30 a.m., and upon the officers' arrival, a collection of incriminating items including a ski mask, bolt cutters, glasses and grip gloves were found left behind at the crime scene according to details released in FOX59's coverage.
The suspects, one aged 18 and two aged 17, were arrested with various preliminary charges laid upon them, 18-year-old Tyrone Bonner is facing a Level 5 felony charge for burglary, a Level 6 felony charge for auto theft, and a misdemeanor criminal trespassing charge while the minors are both charged with a Level 5 felony for burglary and a misdemeanor for criminal trespassing.
The recurrent nature of these burglaries points to wider issues of gun store security and potentially, the allure such establishments have for those intent on obtaining firearms through illicit means, as such, this latest arrest provides a momentary relief but also serves as a reminder of the persistence of these criminal endeavors and the ongoing challenges faced by proprietors like Burge in safeguarding their inventory against determined thieves.
