In a tribute to one of its most accomplished athletes, Xavier University is set to retire the jersey of former men's basketball standout Trevon Bluiett. The announcement was made Wednesday, noting Bluiett's No. 5 jersey will become just the fifth in the program's history to receive such an honor. A fixture in Xavier's storied basketball saga, Bluiett's contributions on the court have cemented his legacy within the Musketeer community.
Commanding respect both as a fierce competitor and a prolific scorer, Bluiett has earned his place amongst Xavier's basketball legends. As reported by WRTV, his jersey will take its place in the rafters of the Cintas Center, joining the likes of Byron Larkin, Tyrone Hill, Brian Grant, and David West. Returning to Xavier for his senior season, his leadership was integral in the Muskies' consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight run in 2017.
Bluiett's tenure at Xavier was marked by individual brilliance and team success. He's the second all-time leading scorer for the Musketeers, amassing 2,261 points, just trailing behind Byron Larkin’s 2,696, as mentioned by 247Sports. His scoring prowess was matched by his deft three-point shooting, hitting 319 threes over his career the most in school history. Bluiett was also a force on the boards, securing a 12th place on the school's all-time rebounding list with 762 rebounds.
This act of retiring Bluiett's jersey is part of a broader initiative by the university to commemorate their elite athletes. As well as being selected as a consensus Second Team All-America his senior year, his jersey's retirement is a testament to his lasting influence on Xavier basketball.
