A tragic incident has occurred at Percy Priest Lake where a 54-year-old man from Antioch lost his life in what would appear to be a leisurely afternoon on the water. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and local first responders were dispatched to the scene near 4060 Anderson Road after receiving calls about a man in distress on Wednesday afternoon. According to WSMV, the individual was on a pontoon boat, enjoying the amenities before the situation turned for the worse.
The man had been enjoying time on the anchored pontoon boat, which included a slide that he used to enter the water. While attempting to return to the boat, he began experiencing difficulties, struggling to keep afloat. "While attempting to swim back to the vessel, he began to struggle and disappeared below the surface," FOX 17 reported the TWRA as saying. It was noted by witnesses and later reported by the Nashville Fire Department (NFD) that it took between three to five minutes to locate the man once he was submerged.
Upon discovering the man, efforts were quickly made to transport him to the nearest ramp site where CPR was administered. However, the NFD later pronounced him deceased at the scene. This unfortunate event marks the second boating-related death on Percy Priest Lake this year, and the 16th across Tennessee waterways, as initially reported by WKRN.
