The Democratic National Convention (DNC), scheduled to take place later this month at the United Center in Chicago, is generating mixed reactions from local business owners, who are preparing for the impact the event will have on their daily operations. According to NBC Chicago, Julina Pena, owner of Su Taqueria El Rey Del Taco, is gearing up for the anticipated large crowds, traffic, and security restrictions, with law enforcement providing her with extensive information on road closures and what is expected to happen during the event. Pena said, "They stopped by, gave us all the information, where all the roads are going to be closed and what to expect when they’re coming, so I believe we’re more than ready."

Security measures will intensify within the convention perimeter, as the U.S. Secret Service implements vehicle screenings for explosives and restricts parking and access. In areas colored yellow on the DNC's security maps, residents can move freely on foot or by bike, but motorized vehicles will require a thorough security check. Special agent in charge of the U.S. Secret Service, Joel Heffernan, explained to NBC Chicago, "In the yellow area, you can physically walk through, you can bike through, you can do anything you want, but you want to drive a motorized vehicle through that area—you need to get swept."

Despite the comprehensive preparations, some businesses remain unsure about the convention's benefits. As reported by FOX News, Rick Cheng, owner of The Oyster House inside the secure zone, expressed concerns about unpredictable levels of patronage and staffing, stating, "I don’t know how that’s going to turn out."

As Chicago steps into the limelight to host the DNC on August 19-22, an estimated 50,000 visitors are expected to attend, prompting substantial street and sidewalk upgrades, as per FOX News
