In the early hours of Tuesday, a freeway shooting incident prompted a high-speed chase and the eventual apprehension of three suspects by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). CHP Oakland reported shots fired near I-580 westbound at Golf Links Road, with the suspects fleeing in a gray Nissan sedan at a high rate of speed shortly after 2:10 a.m.

The CHP Oakland Area officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which had no plates, but the suspects continued, leading to a chase that extended into the CHP San Francisco Area jurisdiction. Assisted by CHP Air37 and local units, the pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped at Hester Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard, where three suspects jumped out of the gray Nissan and were swiftly captured.

Not content with the disruption already sown, the Nissan resumed its flight and was apprehended after a second chase by CHP Redwood City Area units. This pursuit culminated in a crash near Embarcadero Road, where the driver was arrested. Confirming the severity of the situation, officers found an Avtomat Kalashnikova (AK-47) assault rifle, complete with extended magazines and accompanied by spent shell casings inside the vehicle.

The CHP Oakland Area Major Crimes Unit has taken the lead in an investigation following the apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of the firearm.
