An 18-year-old man, Lawan Jones Jr., remains in custody at the Broward County main jail in Fort Lauderdale, following his arrest on accusations of the murder of his girlfriend's father, Keith Bryan Poole, age 44. Jones, who is poised to turn 19 in September, surrendered himself to authorities and now faces a charge of first-degree murder, as per the NBC Miami report.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the tragic incident occurred on Monday evening in the 1500 block of Northeast 28th Street in Pompano Beach. Family members indicated the shooting took place outside Poole's residence in the sight of his three children, leaving Poole suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. After being transported to Broward Health North, Poole succumbed to his injuries, said Miranda Grossman, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, in a statement shared with Local 10.

Witnesses suggested that the altercation between Jones and Poole was sparked by social media posts allegedly made by Jones, which Poole deemed inappropriate. The discussion escalated into an argument that led to the shooting. Grossman's statement noted that Jones fled the scene with his girlfriend, Poole's daughter, Jessie Poole, who has been "safely located and has been reunited with family," according to Local 10.

Before the fateful event, family members recounted that Jones had been accepted into Poole's home, where he lived for several months. Amidst the unfolding sorrow, Kevin Ceron, sharing his grievance on Facebook, remembered Keith Poole as a lover of music and a charismatic man "had the power to break boundaries," wrote Ceron, as reported by Local 10. "He didn’t care about your skin color, your status, your past, your background. He would treat you with respect and show you his generosity."

The Broward Sheriff's Office is calling on the public for any information related to the case. Detective Steve Novak can be contacted at 954-321-4325, or tips can be submitted anonymously to Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
