A tragic incident occurred in Greene County this past weekend when a high-speed crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist. The accident happened on Saturday, as confirmed by the Greene County Sheriff's Office. According to officials, deputies responded to a scene on South County Road 800 West, just north of County Road 300 South, due to reports of a two-vehicle crash. FOX59 provided details on the vehicles involved, identifying the motorcycle as a 2011 Suzuki GSX and the other vehicle as a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the Dodge Ram was pulling onto County Road 800 West from an access road and soon noticed the motorcyclist speeding toward him. The inquiry by law enforcement highlighted that, the driver's view had been compromised by high vegetation, which obscured his visual field before entering the roadway. WISHTV reported that the driver made a partial crossing before spotting the oncoming motorcycle.
In a bid to avoid a collision, the Dodge Ram driver attempted to reverse while the motorcyclist tried to navigate around the vehicle. Despite their efforts to evade the impending crash, the motorcycle struck the front passenger corner of the Dodge Ram, as CBS4 Indy reported. The collision led to the rider being ejected from the motorcycle.
The ejected rider and the motorcycle were found in a neighboring soybean field. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the truck’s driver emerged unscathed from the ordeal. The Greene County Sheriff's Office noted that, the motorcyclist's high rate of speed was a contributing factor to the severity of the crash, but the final details of the crash are still under investigation.
