An Indianapolis woman and her infant son became the victims of a domestic shooting incident, an event that led to the rapid apprehension of the alleged assailant. CBS4 Indy reports that the woman was breastfeeding her 10-month-old son when they were shot early Saturday morning in their home on the 6100 block of 21st Street.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was summoned to the scene just after midnight, responding to reports of gunfire. The woman, upon being wounded, had to quickly seek help from her neighbor. "I asked what happened and she said, ‘My baby daddy shot us,'" the neighbor, who requested anonymity, told CBS4 Indy.
The situation escalated following a dispute earlier in the evening. According to court documents obtained by FOX59, the victim ended her relationship with her boyfriend, Jerimiah Eldridge, via text message. In a disturbing turn of events, Eldridge allegedly sent her text messages threatening to take her life. Both the mother and child sustained gunshot wounds but, fortunately, survived the attack. The mother was hit in the shoulder while her son sustained an injury to the abdomen, as FOX59 detailed in their coverage. Jerimiah Eldridge is currently facing attempted murder charges as he remains in custody in connection with the shooting.
