An Indiana childcare provider, already charged with the death of a 5-month-old, is now facing new felony charges after a 2-month-old was found with a broken leg in her care. Brittany Baylor, 35, of Jeffersonville, was arrested on one count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of neglect of a dependent, as reported by FOX59.

According to WHAS11, Baylor's unlicensed daycare was not required to quickly obtain licensure under specific conditions. However, the severity of the incidents seems to have largely overshadowed this technicality. The new charges stemmed from an incident in February when a family member noticed the child's leg appeared to be overly sensitive during a diaper change and sought medical attention.

The seriousness of the injuries prompted an investigation, with Indiana State Police Sergeant Carey Huls describing it as "just a tragic situation," involving two different infants in the care of the same provider, as per WHAS11. It was confirmed that a Norton Children's Hospital specialist diagnosed the leg injury as indicative of physical abuse.

FOX59 reports that Baylor had been preliminarily charged with two high-level felony counts in June, surrounding the death of 5-month-old Airis Edmonson in 2022. On August 1, the charges relating to the broken leg incident were formally filed, and Baylor was served with the new charges while already being held in jail on the separate charges.

An initial hearing is set for Monday in Clark Circuit Court 4. Baylor's bond from the earlier charges was substantial, set at $1 million cash. The case has grabbed local media attention due to the tragic nature of the allegations and Baylor's prior arrest for the infant's death last year, as Louisville media followed up on reports of the 5-month-old's parents, who stated it was the first time they'd ever left their child in someone else’s care, as credentialed by WISH-TV. For now, it remains unclear if Baylor remains in the Clark County jail pending the upcoming court proceedings.
