A senior at McGavock High School was taken into custody yesterday, facing serious charges after a school administrator caught him with a vape pen, leading to a search that uncovered a handgun and marijuana with the intent to sell on school property.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the situation escalated when school officials, after discovering the vape pen, proceeded to search the 17-year-old's car where they not only found marijuana but also saw a handgun inside and an air soft pistol; school authorities noted that the gun in question had been reported stolen from an SUV on Albion Street on July 26, additional items retrieved from the car included ammunition, 79 grams of marijuana and a digital scale that presumably used for the narcotics.
The School Resource officer who intervened was able to secure the firearm and the other items, thus potentially circumventing a more dire scenario on school grounds. The young man now faces multiple charges: carrying a weapon on school property, theft of a firearm, and marijuana possession with the intent to distribute.
