A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 24 West near the Davidson-Cheatham county line caused major disruptions and injuries on yesterday evening. The incident involved an overturned tractor-trailer and resulted in the closure of all westbound lanes, leading to significant traffic delays.
The initial crash was reported by WSMV just after 5 p.m. between the Joelton and New Hope Road exits. In addition to a tractor-trailer, a pickup truck and sedan were involved in a collision. While individuals were transported to the hospital, there has been no statement on a extent of their injuries.
Subsequently, Metro Dispatch confirmed that two people were transported to an area hospital with injuries deemed non-critical, as reported by WKRN. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) addressed the situation by posting updates on X, a social media platform, and set up a diversion at exit 35. They also stated that their "TDOT HELP operators are conducting welfare checks and distributing water to motorists,"
Fears of a hazardous situation were also confirmed as the tractor-trailer was reported to possibly be carrying chemicals, triggering a response from the Hazmat teams. Kenley Hargett indicated on social media that TDOT was dealing with a hazmat condition as part of the incident's aftermath. The timing for when normal traffic flow will be restored remains uncertain at this point.
Traffic was initially diverted off the interstate at the Joelton/Whites Creek Pike exit according to WSMV's account of the event. Motorists in the Nashville area were advised to seek alternative routes where possible and to anticipate longer travel times in the vicinity of the interstate closure.
