In a recent announcement, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins disclosed that Jeyson Garcia, a 25-year-old San Francisco resident, faces multiple felony charges in the wake of a string of burglaries that have unsettled residents of Outer Mission District and Noe Valley. According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Garcia's arraignment occurred yesterday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The list of charges against Garcia includes two counts of first-degree residential burglary, with the added severity of victims being present during the incidents. In addition, Garcia is accused of unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle, receiving stolen property, specifically a motor vehicle, and having burglar tools. The criminal complaint against him also points to aggravating factors, such as committing these alleged crimes while on bail or recognizance, prior felony convictions that prohibit his eligibility for probation, and transgressing while already on felony probation.
"Residential burglaries while victims are at home sleeping are especially brazen and terrify communities," DA Jenkins remarked, emphasizing the distress such crimes impose on neighborhoods, as per the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She vowed that her office would harness its full might to secure justice and uphold the principle of accountability. Garcia, found guilty of a prior second-degree burglary felony last July, was awaiting sentencing. On two separate occasions, July 24 and July 26, Garcia purportedly burglarized residences in the dead of night, pilfering items ranging from personal effects to bicycles while the homeowners were asleep, unaware of the intrusion.
SFPD officials nabbed Garcia driving a vehicle reported stolen in one of these burglaries. In a stroke of fate that veered towards justice, his apprehension occurred mere minutes after another house fell victim to burglary. Officers found an identification card belonging to a burglary victim within the stolen vehicle. Garcia is being held without bail as the court acknowledged the potential risk he poses to public safety, a decision executed without prejudice. The next scheduled courtroom engagement for Garcia is a prehearing conference slated for August 5.
