San Francisco's efforts to curtail gun violence saw a recent victory as District Attorney Brooke Jenkins' office secured a conviction against Javon Fee, a 44-year-old man facing multiple firearm-related charges. Following a trial by jury, Fee was found guilty of possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a loaded firearm, and concealing a weapon.
According to an announcement from the District Attorney's office, the jury also upheld the allegation that Fee had a prior assault with a deadly weapon conviction. After receiving a tip, San Francisco Police Department officers apprehended Fee on the 400 block of Eddy Street, leading to his most recent convictions. District Attorney Jenkins pointed out that holding individuals who are legally prohibited from carrying firearms is key to the DA's strategy for making the city safer.
In the case detailed by the announcement, on April 25, the SFPD officers responded to the tip and, due to a warrantless search condition stemming from Mr. Fee's Post Release Community Supervision, were able to locate a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol in his jacket. The loaded firearm, complete with a bullet chambered, was found during a routine search by law enforcement.
Assistant District Attorney Jordyn Sequeira, responsible for prosecuting the case, thanked the jury "for their diligence in evaluating the evidence and helping to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals," according to a press release. Critical support was provided by paralegal Aareona Miles and IT specialists Morris Moore and Noaeh Pinaire, thereby ensuring the trial's successful prosecution.
Currently undergoing the justice system's procedures, Mr. Fee remains in custody and awaits sentencing scheduled for October 4.
