A Tennessee man, Joshua Wayne Goff, has been charged in connection with the death of 29-year-old Rebecca Maxfield, whose body was found inside a car in a cornfield. The Warren County Sheriff's Department detailed the charges against Goff as abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Maxfield was reported missing on August 4 and her body was discovered in DeKalb County on August 9th. According to WSMV, Goff was arrested and subsequently booked into the Warren County Jail with his bond set at $60,000.
The investigation, which spanned multiple agencies, including the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, eventually led to Goff's arrest. FOX 17 reports that Goff is to appear before General Sessions Judge Ryan J. Moore for arraignment. The Warren County Sheriff's Department is continuing to aggressively work to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding Maxfield's death.
Warren County Sheriff Jackie D. Matheny, Jr. announced the arrest yesterday, the result of a collaborative effort amongst local law enforcement agencies. "The arrest is the result of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office working with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Smithville Police Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s offices from both Warren and DeKalb Counties in the investigation regarding the death of Rebecca Maxfield of Smithville." Sheriff Matheny stated, as quoted by WJLE.
