Three individuals have been rescued from a maintenance hole in Hancock County on Monday morning, in a dramatic escape aided by local emergency rescue teams. The Sugar Creek Township Fire Department reported to the scene after a call came in around 8 a.m. about an unconscious male along with two other individuals trapped in a manhole on the 2200 block of W Bedrock Ln.
Upon the responders' arrival, they discovered a semi-conscious male and two others in the utility hole. Quick action from the firefighters and paramedics was taken to lower oxygen to the unconscious male, "which did improve their condition," according to FOX59. The precise details surrounding how the individuals became trapped were not immediately clear.
Assistance from the Hancock County Technical Rescue team was pivotal in the operation. Following the initial provision of oxygen, the workers then climbed out of the manhole with a little help from firefighters on the scene, as detailed in WISHTV. One of the workers, whose condition necessitated further medical attention, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The operation concluded with all three individuals safely out of the hole by 8:20 a.m. "The three people were then able to get out of the hole with assistance," WTHR reported. Despite the successfully coordinated rescue, questions remain about the specific work the individuals were conducting and the circumstances that led to their predicament in the manhole.
