Two individuals have tragically lost their lives in a severe collision that took place in northwest Indiana, involving a semi truck and a passenger vehicle, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office. The incident was reported at 11:36 a.m. Tuesday, when witnesses to the crash quickly alerted 911 dispatchers. As reported by FOX59, a 2018 Ford, driven by a 73-year-old man from Goodland, Indiana, was heading westbound and failed to properly yield, leading to the collision with the southbound semi truck operated by a 21-year-old man from Hartford City.

The driver of the semi was pronounced dead at the scene, while the older driver of the Ford was taken to an area hospital where he died due to the injuries sustained. Both drivers' names have not been released pending notification of next of kin. "The Newton County Sheriff’s Office would like to express our appreciation to multiple citizens that risked their own safety to do everything in their power to assist the crash victims," said the sheriff's office in a news release obtained by FOX59.
